Pursuant to New York State Executive Order 203, the Rotterdam Police Department along with the Rotterdam Town Board established the Town of Rotterdam Policing Reform and Reinvention Collaborative. The collaborative was formed in the fall of 2020 and is made up of stakeholders from the community. Participating organizations include community organizations, religious groups, business organizations, local school districts, college administrators, Schenectady County Sheriff’s Department, Schenectady County District Attorney’s office, Schenectady County Public Defender’s office and the Schenectady County Conflict Defender’s office.
The collaborative met for both an in person forum and a virtual meeting. Police Department policies and practices were reviewed and specific areas for reform were examined by group members. Using this input, policy recommendations are currently being developed and will be presented to the Rotterdam Town Board for public comment in the coming weeks.
The collaborative meetings were recorded and can be viewed by clicking the links below. The slides from this presentation can be viewed by clicking https://rotterdampd.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/powerpoint.pdf. Questions or comments may be directed to rotterdampd@rotterdamny.org.
